Prevention of biofilm formation and associated MIC activities can often be accomplished through a combination of common-sense design and proactive biofouling control strategies. Having a control program in place doesn't always guarantee that a system will stay free from biofouling and MIC. Microorganisms often have ways of adapting to even the most adverse environments, including industrial systems that are treated with biocides.
