Other Industrial Markets
Altran Solutions engineers use the Materials Science & Engineering Center to perform material evaluations and qualifications of systems and components that reside in large industrial machinery. The mechanical testing facilities play a key role in analysis and failure investigation. Altran's experience with mechanical testing of a wide range of materials and conditions can simulate real world operation. Materials can be evaluated at temperature, with an environment. Cyclic fatigue testing or stress strain curves of materials can be easily performed. Various low and high load test systems with variable height testing frames accommodate numerous components of different shapes and size. A full machine shop located within the Materials Science & Engineering Center can prepare custom fixtures to evaluate various shapes and component configurations.
Mechanical Testing Capabilities
- Cyclic fatigue testing
- Computer controlled 250 kN and 90 kN servo-hydraulic test frames
- Customized data acquisition system
- Customized fixturing
- Environmental chamber (-80 oC to 300 oC)
- Numerous load cell from 2.5 N to 250 kN
Selected Examples
Bridge Cable Project
Altran engineers used the mechanical testing load frames to benchmark bridge cable wires in ongoing study. The servo-hydraulic frames also prepared the samples by fatiguing the cables and simulate minute cracks. The calibrated system was also used to prepare slow strain rate machines by calibration load cells.
Hernia Patch Material
Altran engineers performed a comparative study of hernia repair patch material. The study was part of a program to reduce pain and stiffness in hernia patients. The testing was performed on recently explanted material with attached patch. Testing utilized innovative fixturing and unique testing methodology developed specifically for the project.
