Bridge Cable Project
Altran engineers used the mechanical testing load frames to benchmark bridge cable wires in ongoing study. The servo-hydraulic frames also prepared the samples by fatiguing the cables and simulate minute cracks. The calibrated system was also used to prepare slow strain rate machines by calibration load cells.
Aging
Altran engineers performed a comparative study of o-rings used in power plants. Simulated accelerated ageing was performed on a population of o-rings. Mechanical properties were evaluated at predetermined intervals and related to the actual required sealing force for the application. A custom test and fixture was developed to accommodate samples and ensure experimental repeatability.
