Termite Case Study

A client asked Altran Solutions to evaluate their novel compounds for activity against living organisms associated with biological fouling. Altran Laboratories demonstrated that the compound was highly effective under conditions that simulated those of the in-service environment.

Altran scientists and engineers then suggested that the compound be evaluated for its effectiveness against wood-destroying pests, with the potential of introducing the compound to the wood products industry. The compound was extremely successful at protecting wood samples from termite degradation. The success of these tests has prompted the client to enter the termite mitigation market. Termite attack heaviest in untreated control (U) and toluene treated (T) blocks, light in 1% XYZ treated blocks, and no apparent attack in pressure treated (PT) or 10% XYZ treated test blocks

This is an especially attractive market, since $1.7 billion US dollars are spent annually on the prevention and control of termite damage to residential and commercial buildings, and only a limited number of environmentally acceptable anti-termite agents are available for industrial application.
