Antifouling Paint Development

A developer of a novel antimicrobial compound was having trouble obtaining the capitol needed to further develop their product and bring it to market. The client retained Altran Solutions to develop a plan to demonstrate the effectiveness of their compound to prevent biofouling of industrial and consumer product materials. Altran's plan included testing the efficacy of the compound as an additive in indoor paint, plastics, adhesives (caulking and mastics), paper and thin film packaging products.

Altran developed microbiology assays to test the performance of the additive in those products against bacteria and mold contamination/attack.

The testing simulated the end use environments that the products would be subjected to in both industrial and consumer settings. The client's additive was also tested in conjunction with commercially available products to assess performance against their competitors.

The results of Altran Solutions' testing plan not only showed the effectiveness of the compound to stop the growth of bacteria and mold as an additive in different industrial and consumer products, it performed hands down to their competitors.

These results enabled the client to generate the interest of building and consumer product manufacturers to invest in further developing the antimicrobial as an additive for their products.
