Generator Step-up Transformer Replacement

Altran Solutions was contracted to provide engineering and design services for the emergency replacement of a major Fossil Generating Station's Generator Step-up (GSU) Transformer and associated 138 kV Circuit Breaker which failed and burned during the summer 2002 peak load period. The fire from the 200 MVA 18kV-138kV Transformer damaged the 18kV Isophase Bus Duct as well as all control cable connections. Altran Solutions interfaced with site and equipment vendor personnel to expedite the Electrical and Civil / Structural packages to install a new Transformer and 138kV SF6 type Circuit Breaker. The packages were issued for construction within three weeks, prior to the replacement equipment arriving on site. Altran Solutions provided 24/7 installation support throughout the construction and testing of the new equipment.
