Altran Solutions has strong credentials in probabilistic risk assessment (PRA), probabalistic safety assessment (PSA) and risk-informed applications. Our staff has performed all aspects of PRA since the first utility-specific models were built in 1980. We are familiar with the various PRA methods employed in the industry including CAFTA, NUPRA, and RISKMAN methodologies. Projects include full Level 3 assessments on a Westinghouse 4-loop plant ice condenser and on a B&W plant, as well as PRAs for GE BWRs and CE, Westinghouse and B&W PWRs. There has been greater interest by the nuclear power industry in risk-informed methodologies to supplement traditional engineering approaches. Risk-informed methods use historical and probabalistic data to decrease costs of equipment inspection and testing while provide equal or greater safety margin. The NRC recently issued Regulatory Guide 1.178 (formerly DG-1063) to provide guidance on in-service inspection of piping using a framework that incorporated risk insights. Altran Solutions has been active in the development and implementation of risk-informed technical specifications, risk-informed testing (IST) for valves, risk-informed quality assurance, maintenance rule, and risk-informed in-service inspection (ISI). In addition, we offer services in economic and safety-related risk ranking of systems and components.
